Western Digital's official announcement of the 10K SATA drives

    Western Digital have posted the official press release dealing with the new 10,000 rpm SATA drives.


    Expected to be shipping later this month, the WD Raptor hard drive is expected to sell for approximately 30 percent less than competing SCSI hard drives. Initially, the hard drive will be available in a 36 GB capacity. ... 5.2 ms average seek time, 10,000 RPM, 1.2 million hours MTBF and five-year warranty...

    Bringt nun SATA doch was? Tja so ein Drive wird sich schnell an die Spitze der ATA Platten kämpfen. Gibts eigentlich auch 10k rpm Platten für ATA100/133?]

    mich nimmts wunder wie laut die dinger werden... :D

    Sicher werden sie recht laut sein. Aber das ist ja zweitrangig.


    - Sie werden schnell sein
    - sind zwar etwa 30% billiger als SCSI aber dennoch teuerer als normale ATA
    - Haben eine kleinere Fehlerrate als die normalen IDE Platten
    - 5 Jahre Garantie!


    So für einen Server ist das eigentlich eine gute Alternative zwischen SCSI und IDE
